TIOBEインデックスで見る2023年5月のプログラミング言語人気ランキング

ソフトウェア品質の評価と追跡を専門とするオランダのTIOBEソフトウェアが毎月発表する「TIOBEプログラミングコミュニティーインデックス」（通称「TIOBEインデックス」）。

このTIOBEインデックスからは、それぞれのプログラミング言語がどれだけ話題になっているかがわかりますが、2023年5月のデータは、以下の通り。

新しいプログラミング言語はどこにあるのか？

以前から言われていることですが、プログラミング言語の人気は割と安定しています。TIOBE Indexの1位から10位までのプログラミング言語を見てみると、一番若いのは C# です。C# は2000年にスタートしました。つまり、23年前です！

ほぼ毎日、新しいプログラミング言語が誕生していますが、上位100位以内に入るものはほとんどありません。少なくとも、最初の10年間はそうではありません。

現在のトップ100で10年未満の言語は、以下の通りです。

Swift（14位）、Rust（17位）、Crystal（48位）、Solidity（59位）、Pony（71位）、Raku（72位）、Zig（88位）、Hack（92位）。

いずれも5年未満ではありません。言い換えると、新人でチャートを賑わすことは、ほぼ不可能です。それどころか、黄金期のオールディーズが復活することも見られます。例えば、 Fortran は、数値計算能力に対する需要の高まりにより、トップ20に返り咲きました。そのため、もしあなたが新しいプログラミング言語を発明したら、少し我慢してください！

Where is that new programming language?

It has been stated before, programming language popularity is rather stable. If we look at the first 10 programming languages in the TIOBE index, then C# is the youngest of them all. C# started in 2000. That is 23 years ago! Almost every day a new programming language is born, but hardly any of them enter the top 100. At least not in their first 10 years. The only languages younger than 10 years in the current top 100 are: Swift (#14), Rust (#17), Crystal (#48), Solidity (#59), Pony (#71), Raku (#72), Zig (#88) and Hack (#92). None of them are less than 5 years old. In other words, it is almost impossible to hit the charts as a newbie. On the contrary, we see that golden oldies revive. Take for instance Fortran, which is back in the top 20 thanks to the growing demand for numerical computational power.
